Patience paid off - A winning entry in the National Wildlife 2007 Photo Contest

When I made this image I had to spend a few hours in planning, waiting for this Tailed Jay butterflies to show up on the flower and thinking about right shutter speed, background to use etc. Happy to know this is one of the winning entries in the 2007 National Wildlife Photo Contest.

Congrats Ganesh. I know the langur image you have as your avatar in INW is close to your heart. Guess this might come a close second to that. Whenever I see this image first I had always wondered how you arrived at the shutter speed. The slow shutter speed indeed will capture the butterfly motion but the flower is also susceptible to shake either because of wind or because of the butterfly taking off. Somehow you seemed to have got the correct balance of shutter speed and motion blur so that the butterfly motion is captured and the flower is absolutely still. Great effort.

This is a brilliant image Ganesh. Right from the day one when I saw this image I dont know how many times I have thought about it. I dont know to how many people I have shown this image as a quiz to identify whats that which looks like fumes! Just a fantastic image and brilliantly executed. Yes, finally it paid off! A much deserved win indeed.

Congrats!
